FAQ

SynaptiQs is a software in permanent developpement.

Is SynaptiQs free?

SynaptiQs is a completely free software under GPL v3. You can use it, modify it, distribute it, but not for commercial purpose (or contact me).

Is SynaptiQs a standalone freeware?

No, because I'm not a professional programmer,so I based my work on pre-existing freewares. Data import is based on OpenElectrophy, a nice software developped by Samuel Garcia in Lyon, France. Once the data in SynaptiQs, you don't need OE anymore...for the moment now, I also suggest you to execute SynaptiQs from Spyder. If you are working under Windows, you will also need WinPython

Any link with Synaptics plugin in IgorPro?

Absolutely !!! I starded my PhD with this amazing analysis software called IgorPro (here), in which Boris Barbour developped a script called Synaptics. I modified this script during 3 years to make it fit with my needs (short-term plasticity analysis, high-frequency burst analysis, variance-mean analysis etc...). So when I started to use python, I needed something close to my cosy analysis-environnement. This is how SynaptiQs is born. By the way, the "Q" is because SynaptiQs is programmed in PyQt4.

Why should I use SynaptiQs and not another commercial software?

I personnaly use this software because I like to develop my own analysis tools. I also use it because it allows me to use database, and thus do way more complexe analyses. Once you have programmed your script, you can do and redo analyses that would take hours or days just in a few minutes, because you don't have to re-open multiple files, tag list, concatenates sweeps etc... Once your script is done, it's just like using your music library!

How do I install SynaptiQs?
